Oct 14, 2017 About 2 1/2 million were made from August of 1917 to sometime in 1919 when production was stopped. These were made by Winchester, Remington and Eddystone. Eddystone was a division of Remington located in Eddystone, PA. Eddystone made about 1.3 million rifles while Remington and Winchester each made about 600,000 rifles. Colt New Army Revolver. Why the revolver? Some of you may know that I'm into Thompsons. What do Thompsons have to do with turn of the century revolvers and M1. Rifles, you might ask? Well, they are all tied together through history by John T.

Thompson, namesake of the Thompson Submachine Gun. From 1. 90. 1- 1.
Captain John T. Thompson was the Inspector of Pistols for the United States Army. My Model 1. 90. 3 Colt New Army Revolver bears his inspector initials of 'JTT' at the top of the frame, just above and behind the cylinder on the left side. In 1. 91. 4, Colonel Thompson retired from the military to work for Remington Arms Co., and was given the responsibility to design and build the largest small arms production facility in the world at the time.
This project became the Eddystone Plant in Pennsylvania, where P1. British, along with Mosin- Nagants for the Russians, and subsequently, U. S. M1. 91. 7 Rifles were produced there. Thompson also previously supervised the development of the M1.
Rifle. When the U. S. became involved in WWI, Thompson went back to the Army, and was promoted to Brigadier General. He became the Director of Arsenals, and was in charge of all small arms manufacturing, including U. S. M1. 91. 7 Rifles.

The top M1. 91. 7 in the picture is quite a nice example, and has the appropriate M1. Kerr sling. In the lower left corner, you can see two original flyers (displayed front and back) that accompanied M1. M1. 91. 7 Rifle. The Kerr Adjustable Sling is the appropriate sling for this rifle, although certainly M1. You may notice that the second rifle, also an Eddystone, is shorter than the one above it.
This has been a subject of curiosity for me for more than 2. It appears to have been arsenal reworked into a shorter rifle.

Nothing about this rifle says 'sporter.' There apparently were some M1. Rifles that were shortened for use by Filipino troops. I have corresponded with Bruce Canfield about my rifle, and he does not believe it is one of the Filipino examples, and we could not come to a conclusion as to why it was shortened. 1917 Eddystone Rifle Serial Numbers
Hello, my first post here and I really enjoy this site. I've been a long time Remington Collector and have now been bitten by the military grade Remington rifles. I'm pretty limited on knowledge so I'm looking for some info on a 1917.
A gun collector friend called me and asked if I was interested in a Remington 1917. Here is what I found out:
Cartouche Marks:
On the left side of the stock, there is a clear 'RA-R' stamp then below it is 'AA-A' Can anyone decipher these for me?
'P' in the circle down by the trigger. I know about these
The receiver is stamped Remington 1917
Barrel is Remington and dated 1/18. Barrel is very clean
Most, if not all of the other metal parts I found had an 'E' stamped on them. I assume this is means 'Eddystone'
The serial number is in the 144000 range
The wood looks excellent, no cracks, gouges, etc
Bluing looks very good.
Parts all appear original and functional
I'll try and post a pic if I can get one. Can anyone tell me a price range for this rifle? It is very clean and I would like to make this guy an offer. Looking at Gunbroker and others the price ranges are all over the place and it's difficult to determine the value.
Any ideas on value would be appreciated. I need to move quickly as he is going to sell this shortly. Thanks.
