MathType Editor's Review
- With MathType installed, there is an object in the MathType 6 folder in Applications: Uninstall MathType.app. The uninstall program should take care of removing MathType's OLE registration. If you've already deleted the MathType applications folder, and the Uninstall app is no longer there, try this.
- Cross-referencing is an essential aspect of professionally prepared documents. References can be maintained manually (as most of the Microsoft Word users are used to do), but with the document size growth the procedure of maintaining references.

Construct complex mathematical equations for your documents with this easy to use Windows tool.
One of the biggest problems I remember having way back in the day was writing papers for either my math or physics classes. Hold rel mem cr chase bank. Back when I was in college, Windows wasn't around. Windows didn't really become Windows until well after I graduated from college. I had access to word processors and such, but they were DOS based, and at the time, most people hand crafted complex mathematical expressions in their documents. It was just easier, and a lot more affordable than any programmatic alternative. This is why I like MathType. It constructs mathematical expressions on your Windows PC.
MathType allows you to enter mathematical equations as easily as you would write math with paper and pencil. The app makes use of Windows 7's built-in handwriting recognition, though you'll need a PC with a touch screen in order to use this feature. You can also use its point and click editing features. With Automatic Formatting, you can create equations quickly by choosing templates from MathType's palettes and plugging and chugging data into its empty slots. MathType applies mathematical spacing rules automatically as you type.
If you don't have a TabletPC or Windows PC with a touch screen, the app also supports customizable keyboard shortcuts. If you already know the TeX typesetting language, you can enter equations directly into MathType or Microsoft Word documents. TeX editing can also be mixed with point-and-click editing. You can even paste in equations from existing TeX documents. Existing expressions can be saved to the MathType toolbar for repeated use later.
App Pro’s: Supports TabletPC and touch features, supports TeX or LaTeX, Supports every version of Office from Office XP forward
Mathtype 6.7 For Mac
App Con’s: limited scope and use, pricey for such a scope-limited application
Conclusion: If you need to compose complex mathematical expressions for your Office documents, there's no better tool than MathType. The app is easy to use, supports Windows 7's TabletPC extensions and touch enabled hardware. With support for Office XP forward, it's going to work with the version of MS Office you already own. The only issue with the software is its limited scope and target audience.
MathType trial
What can I do with MathType during the 30-day trial?
During your MathType trial period, you can do the same things as you can with a fully-registered copy of MathType. There are no restrictions or limitations other than the time limit of 30 days. What can I do after the 30-day trial expires?
There are 3 things you can do with an expired trial. One, you can view and print the equations. Two, you can copy them as LaTeX or MathML or a site-specific format (such as WordPress and many others). Three, if you're in Word you can convert the equation to a Word equation editor (OMML) equation. One thing you cannot do after your trial expires is create or edit equations. What happens with MathType documents when my trial expires?
The equations in documents you create during the trial remain readable and unchanged after your trial expires. The only difference you'll notice is you'll no longer be able to make changes to these equations. With MathType Desktop the equations do require the MathType fonts to remain installed though, so take care not to remove any font with the name Euclid in it, nor the font MT Extra.MathType licenses

MathType Desktop vs Equation Editor
Equation Editor (aka 'Microsoft Equation 3.0' and other names) was included with Microsoft Office and other products for many years. It is not included with Microsoft Office any longer, but you may still have it if you have not updated your copy of Microsoft Office or if you have other applications that include Equation Editor. Even if the software on your computer no longer includes Equation Editor, you or your colleagues may still have documents that contain equations created with Equation Editor.
